Welcome...

Welcome to the Property and Land section of my website. This section will replace all real estate, land and property guides and information on my previous site mycorfudreams.com.

This section will feature Property and Land information from all over the World, although it will feature most information about Land and Property in Greece.

Articles will contain information about how to purchase land and property, and how to avoid some of the pitfalls. Properties available for sale now will be included as well as links to reputable companies.  They will only be included on this site if I personally recommend them to you.

Photographs of various property related themes will also be included in this section.

Questions about buying property and land, or moving overseas, can be placed on the forum section of this site.

Thank you

Janet

New Tax laws on Holiday homes

I have just been reading about the new British tax laws regarding holiday homes, and realise they will affect many people who visit this site.It also says in the article that no letters are being sent out to inform people about the new laws.

Details can be found at
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk

and at http://www.business.timesonline.co.uk

In a nutshell, the British taxman wants everyone to declare if they have a holidayhome, before 22nd June. There will be an amnesty until then, with people being charged a smaller penalty for not declaring a holiday villa income in the past.

Tough penalties and prosecutions against undeclared rental income from holiday homes will be implemented from 22nd June. Tax authorities will be exchanging information about property ownership, and if the income has been declared in either country. Because of a reciprocal agreement, if you have declared the income in Greece, on a Greek tax number, this will be taken into account by the British authorities, and you should not be liable to British tax on the same income.

Some countries, such as Spain and  France, are planning to do some investigations of their own.Tax authorities in these countries are planning to crack down on owners of holiday homes who do not have a declared income from them.

New laws have changed the way residency in Britain is judged. If you live for 183 days or more in Britain, you are classed as resident in that country. You are also classed as resident if you have visited Britain for an average of 91 days or more a year , over the last four years.

Scary stuff!
